About "America's Obituaries and Death Notices"

http://www.newsbank.com/public/obit.html

Single source for obituary and death notice research

Obituaries and death notices are among the most requested types of information in the library. The process of locating obituary and death notice records has traditionally been a time-consuming process requiring having to search multiple sources and numerous newspaper databases. In response, NewsBank developed America's Obituaries & Death Notices, a unique resource that contains more than 15 million recent death records with new content added daily. America's Obituaries & Death Notices consolidates content from hundreds of newspapers across the nation, making it easy to find coverage of loved ones, colleagues, and friends from across the country.

Extra step leads to better search results

In assembling this resource, we do more than consolidate existing information. Instead, we review each deceased person's name and index it as an individual record. This extra step allows for faster, more accurate searches: no more slow, fruitless searches through single newspapers or general newspaper databases.

Ideal for a variety of research needs

The collection's interface and indexed content dramatically reduce the time typically required to browse multiple and/or hard-to-find sources for answers to specific research questions. America's Obituaries & Death Notices is useful for many different research needs. The collection is a source of invaluable content not only for family members seeking a specific obituary or death notice but for other types of patrons as well, including fundraising and non-profit professionals, writers and journalists, private investigators, insurance company staff, genealogists looking for current records of extended family members and many more.

Advanced retrieval features and unique search options:

· the intuitive map-based interface

· dedicated search fields make it easy to find the name of the deceased and the date of publication

· a separate text search field offers more information about the deceased, such as family members, occupation, avocation, school and/or college, military service, church, service organizations, etc.

· truncation capability with wildcard asterisk (*) characters expands the root of the name and locates spelling variations

· helpful search hints guide users on how to execute searches and find precise information

· tagged lists of search results make it easy to review, e-mail or print obituaries and death notices
